The first Alpine cyclosportive of the season
On 5 and 6 June 2027, take part in a unique event in the heart of the French Alps.
Starting in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, Savoie, the Galibier Challenge takes you all the way to the legendary Col du Galibier, at an altitude of 2,642 metres.
Choose between a high-mountain cyclosportive, a timed hill climb or a non-competitive cycling tour, and set out to conquer one of cycling’s most iconic climbs on a spectacular road still lined with walls of snow.
Take on the Giant of the Alps
Beyond the sporting challenge, the Galibier Challenge is a truly unique experience. It is an opportunity to enjoy the high mountains from the very first days of the summer season and climb one of the most famous mountain passes in cycling history.
From Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, the road climbs towards the Col du Télégraphe, passes through Valloire and then reaches the spectacular landscapes of the Galibier. As the ascent continues, forests gradually give way to alpine pastures, rocky landscapes and snow-covered peaks that make the event so special.
At an altitude of 2,642 metres, crossing the finish line at the Col du Galibier creates an unforgettable memory.
The Cycling Tour
A landmark of cycling since 1911
The Col du Galibier is one of the most legendary climbs in cycling. Standing at 2,642 meters, it connects Savoie to the Hautes-Alpes and challenges cyclists with its steep gradients and unpredictable weather.
First introduced in the Tour de France in 1911, it quickly became a key stage of the race. Henri Desgrange, the Tour’s founder, described it as a heroic feat. Since then, the Galibier has witnessed legendary champions, from Fausto Coppi to Marco Pantani, as well as Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault.
With its breathtaking summit and stunning landscapes, the Galibier remains an iconic destination for cycling enthusiasts, symbolizing endurance, determination, and glory.
