Galibier Pass

18 kilometers - 1239 meters of elevation gain

From Valloire, count 18.2 km of ascent with 1239 m of vertical drop at 7% average. Big piece that this Col du Galibier knowing that the last 8 kilometers are located above 2000 meters! But the ascent becomes monstrous if you start from St-Michel-de-Maurienne, still in Savoy, because to reach Valloire, you will need another pass, that of the Telegraph and the latter is not a gentle one!

Let's summarize: Télégraphe + Galibier, it gives these dizzying figures: 12 + 18.2 = 30.2 km of positive ascent with 851  + 1239 = 2090 m  of elevation gain (with a descent of 4.7 km between  Telegraph Pass  and Valloire, therefore count 35.2 km in total), all at 7% average !!!

Telegraph Pass

12 kilometers - 851 meters of elevation gain

From St-Michel-de-Maurienne, count on a nice climb of 12 km at an average of 7%, this last figure suggesting a fairly steep slope. For those who plan the sequence with the Col du Galibier, it will be necessary to manage their effort in order not to leave feathers there!

After a first kilometer at 5.5% to St-Martin-d'Arc, the slope will harden - 2.5 km at 8% average - to the hamlet of Grandes Seignères. Enjoy the view of the Maurienne Valley as you will then climb  in the middle of the pines. The slope will be regular, oscillating between 7 and 8%, with a small rather steep section of 300 m at 9% around the 5th kilometer and another a little longer at 8.5% between the 6th and the 7th kilometer. At the 8th kilometer, you will be able to recover a little with 1.2 km at 5% to tackle the final part which consists of climbing the last 3 kilometers at an average 7% and reaching the Col du Télégraphe at 1566 m.

Once you have crossed the pass, you will be able to dive towards Valloire, less than 5 kilometers away if you want to continue with the Col du Galibier.

Beau Plan Pass

11 kilometers - 732 meters of elevation gain

Graphique-vert.png

Much less known and traveled than the climb to the Telegraph Pass which is located just opposite on the other side of the valley, this route is nonetheless as beautiful and rough ... with added tranquility!

A magnificent panorama awaits you at the Beau-Plan pass (view of the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Croix des Têtes, the Crey du Quart, Valmeinier).
The condition of the road on this circuit is good, and traffic is low.
